Cats and dogs. Birds and fish. Maggie and… Negan? It’s happened before on The Walking Dead, and as you can see in Decider’s exclusive clip from The Walking Dead: Dead City‘s third episode, it’s happening again. Despite tension in the air so thick you can cut it with a knife, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) are working together on a common goal.
In case you missed them, in the first two episodes of the series, Maggie essentially dragged Negan to post-apocalyptic Manhattan in order to get her son back from a dangerous man named The Croat (Željko Ivanek). The reason? The Croat was a part of Sanctuary, the dangerous community Negan presided over back when he, you know, killed Maggie’s husband. Only thing, The Croat and Negan didn’t quite see eye to eye on certain things, and Negan shot his ear off.
In the scene above, the duo is laying out their plan to get Hershel (Logan Kim) back from The Croat’s stronghold in Madison Square Garden.
“So how far, for the cells, once we get in?” Maggie asks their new allies, who had previously been held in the same cells.
When they’re told that “it’s close,” Negan says and adds, “Wouldn’t bank on those cells being full. After your disappearing act, he would have moved folks outside.”
Naturally, the next question is: “How do you know?”
…and that’s when Maggie lays all their cards on the table. After learning an important lesson about honesty in Episode 2, the hellbent mother isn’t wasting any time beating around the bush and needs everyone on board with what they’re going to do.
